Place To Be

Woodland Weaving Project

A community project designed to relax and engage participants while we create communal sculpture. Come along and give willow weaving a go while we connect with ourselves, each other and the natural world.

We invite you to Parndon Wood Nature Reserve to make the art through random-style weaving, winding, plaiting, stringing, and binding willow. The sculpture will be reminiscent of a cocoon, seed or pod, evoking a sense of sanctuary, safety and growth.

As more participants make their mark, the texture and depth of the sculpture will grow—a communal effort to build a nest or a den. The more hands involved, the more intricately woven, colourful, diverse, and beautiful the final result. This process mimics the communal effort found in nature, such as a colony of ants or a hive of bees, working together to construct their home. All welcome!
